My dear brothers and sisters,

My name is Soulfriend and I am calling together the healing domes for the Redlightning community in Black Rock CIty, Nevada. (www.redlightning.org)

The healing council has formed and our vision is materializing. This message is for you who are called to hold space with us. To be of service to the immediate community Redlightning, as well as to the community of BRC and beyond.

Are you interested in co-creating and activating a harmonic resonance for vitality, health, life and transformational work? Are you who we are dreaming in, to collectively hold down this space on the playa?

The intention is to offer a variety of healing modalities ie: DNA activations, oracles, light workers, massage, healing touch, yoga, sound healing… you name it, to those going through their processes within the vibrations of the divine feminine and sacred masculine, uniting at the vesica piscis.

We will be working out of two domes within the Redlightning. The first will be a facilitated healing space with tables for active process with a center altar for prayer and connecting to the vortex of the 7th dimension. The second dome will be a community wellness sanctuary for group work ie: breath work, sound healing, guided meditation, talks on blood mysteries... Between workshops, it will be a contemplative/retreat space for people to meditate or rest and receive the vibrations that we as a collective activate and hold throughout the week.

We will also be working in tandem with the tender-hart guardians and invite you to consider offering your services as a guardian of the healing domes and the healers as well.

in desperate need of healing...

I'm reaching out to the tribe so that hopefully those that need to can hear my cry. I'm 22 and have manifested a congenital heart defect (enlarged heart) through what I believe is my own doing and being, and fear its implications (sudden death) for what could conceivably be the rest of my life. I know we have the ability to heal ourselves and that this is a mind sickness manifested in my body temple, but I unfortunately have not developed many powers. I'm a poor college student whose already drowning in bills, but will give the most i possibly can if you need or want money. If you can help me in any way, please contact me and advise. Thank you.

20 Astral Keys to Gates of Universal Consciousness

Carl Gustav Jung (1875–1961) was a Swiss psychiatrist who developed the field of analytical psychology and introduced the concept of archetypes of consciousness being "innate universal psychic dispositions that form the substrate from which the basic themes of human life emerge. Being universal and innate, their influence can be detected in the form of myths, symbols, rituals and instincts of human beings. Archetypes are components of the collective unconscious and serve to organize, direct and inform human thought and behaviour. ...archetypes heavily influence the human life cycle, propelling a neurologically hard-wired sequence which he called the stages of life. Each stage is mediated through a new set of archetypal imperatives which seek fulfillment in action."[1]

Centuries before Jung, the Maya introduced the very similar concept of Archetypes of Divine Consciousness. (According to the Maya, there are 20 of them.) Likewise, these Archetypes form the substrate from which individual Divine Consciousness emerges. Also being components of the collective unconscious, the Maya-identified Archetypes organize, direct and engender Divine thought and behavior in the human experience, in stages, over the course of days, months, years, ...millennia. Hard wired into the binary code of DNA and the human brain, these Archetypes are mediated through the permutations of an universal, binary, object oriented Code evident in and galactically broadcast by harmonic star cycles. Chakra Journey with Essential Oils~Denver

Just over a year ago, my Guides encouraged me to blend several of my practices to create this meditation to acknowledge the source of blockages in my chakras and shift my perception by holding back the veil....so to speak.
Particular essential oils immediately effect the limbic system in our brain and can reach areas where toxins are stored from emotional traumas we have experienced in the past. By traveling to "receptors" that can only be reached through our olfactory sense, essential oils are a pathway to healing ourselves.
Several years ago I began channeling aromatic blends at the encouragement of life circumstances and the ethers. Not every scenario that calls for essential oils is indexed in books...and we all do afterall, respond to things differently.
My passion is to make custom blends for individuals...but several years ago a dear friend asked for me to develope a chakra set to be used for Reiki...and so this series was created.
I was simutaneously involved with an apprenticeship in the Tarot...And when I was able to acknowledge I had a blockage in my throat, I asked for guidance and the meditation came to be.
These are individual journeys...the scents themselves will open things up to you...I am here to guide you and support you through the process.
For the next few months I will be doing sessions for donations in exchange of gathering individual imput about the journey.

The Tzolkin: Music for positive planetary consciousness and change.

Twenty years ago, I was sitting in my little studio in Los Angeles, CA, sequencing and recording the first acoustic translations of the Mayan Sacred Calendar, the Tzolkin, and shifting into what was being called the "Harmonic Convergence." Throughout the convergence, the acoustic translations of the Tzolkin's 20 Sacred Signs were being broadcast through my house and yard via the only radio transmission system accessible to me at the time, an el cheapo walkie talkie. Lolol... Hey, gotta do what ya gotta do and, having "coincidentally" translated the Tzolkin into sound only months before, my intention was to insure that the planet's ethereal body received both the galactic radio transmission and a local radio transmission of the [concentrated] Tzolkin's currents, simultaneously. It was the least I could do for the planet and, although I had the least of the consumer broadcasting possibilities, I got the job done. (A little leaven leavens the whole loaf.) Since that auspicious transit, the world's consciousness has followed a predicted course toward collective enlightenment, on and relative to all levels of society. Now, here we are, 20 years later, poised on the precipice of (and rapidly accelerating into) the most profound shift in planetary consciousness the world has ever experienced. Fortunately, the ancient Maya priests who foresaw this time also perceived and left us the Tzolkin as a tool to help us transit this period successfully.

Here is the fundamental value of the Tzolkin; it is a Key unlocking the Archetypal Properties embodied in cycles of the 4th dimension, Time, that enable us to ascend into higher levels of Life and being human (in the Highest sense of the word). Time is about periodicity, frequency. Basically, Consciousness, the All in all, uses Time to effect change in the 3rd, 2nd and 1st dimensions. The Tzolkin is a map of how Consciousness does so relative to the expression of specific Aspects of Itself. The Tzolkin is a table of the Logic embodying specific, cyclic Patterns of Time facilitating the expression of those Aspects through all states of manifestation via electromagnetic radiation. When those Patterns are expressed in their purest Form, i.e. electromagnetic frequency, e.g. sound or light, that expression effects a psychoactive, ethereal bridge to the 4th dimension and the Consciousness that generates, progresses and sustains all that is.

At this time, the world understands the principals of using complimentary sounds to effect brain synchronization and cognitive enhancement. Now, we understand the validity of using tone to effect remarkable physiological and psychological shifts. Furthermore, we not only accept, we embrace the mathematical plausibility of a multidimensional universe beyond the accepted 4 dimensions; length, width, height/depth and time. Today, we understand the unity of these dimensions and of all things in such a way that we can comprehend how certain harmonic patterns transmitted in the 3D expression of Life may effect links to their concurrent Life expressions in the 4D, 5D and higher realms. We understand that sound can be used to effect vibrational states whereby higher levels of perception and informations are obtained. And now, as a result of the Tzolkin acoustic translations, we are capable of taking an ordinary CD and tangibly applying dynamics of the 4th dimension to radically and positively progress individual and communal consciousness, health and vitality.

Jesus (the Christ, not Martinez) said "They that have ears to hear, let them hear." He knew not everyone was prepared to hear the enlightening Truth that Consciousness was pouring through him, nevertheless, he spoke so those who could hear It would have the opportunity to do so. I'm sure there are many people reading this who are dismissing the above as New Age delusion, at best, and that does not negate the validity of what I'm sharing, nor of my experience and the experiences of many others who have used the Tzolkin acoustic translations. At one point, we lacked the instruments to confirm we live in an heliocentric planetary system, that information can be transmitted across open air without wires, that our cells are individual microcomputers. We may not have the instruments required to validate string theory or the practical linking of our 3D experience to the vital currents of the 4th and higher dimensions using sound and/or light, however we will. Those who do or may understand and are seeking the value of the easily applied tools for personal enhancement such as the Tzolkin translations (who share this online community) deserve to hear now, and they can.

The Live Earth concerts!! Wow, speaking of hearing, the sound quality was incredible. I was online through most of the event, jumping from country to country, continent to continent. I heard a lot of great music and I heard a consistent message. The Story....

We are now in a time when natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes, and tidal waves are dramatically affecting our planet, and our lives on it. We now have the power to destroy this beautiful Earth quickly, with atomic power, or more slowly, with pollution and devastation of our resources, and overpopulation. I have been guided to tell you that we also have the very real power to save this planet, and to make it a loving and healthy place for ourselves and for future generations. Please take a few minutes to read my story. It will hopefully save our Earth.

I have a story to tell you that I know will be hard to believe in parts, but it has happened to me, and I cannot erase or deny any of it (though at times I wish I could). I am a "normal" woman who grew up in simple yet chaotic times. I am much like you in most every way. I always thought I would be the last one to have a miracle occur in her life, much less two miracles, and all that has happened since. Therefore the tale I tell could be of your life, and not mine. But seeing it is mine I guess I was meant to tell it.

What I want to establish first, is the fact that miracles do happen and they happen to people like you and me. What we need to make these miracles happen is to open ourselves to the communication that is all around us every day. Communication not from this world but from the world of our creator, the cosmos and the universe. The message comes from a distance, but you find it by going inside and believing. We can all create miracles within our lives, and that is one of the main points in writing this for you. I have no special tricks. Simply open yourself to the possibility that what I tell you is possible and that it is available to every person.

I will refer to God in many ways throughout this story. This is strange for me to refer to God in any sense, as I believed he had abandoned me a very long time ago. But I will refer to a prime creator of the cosmos and the universe, along with this earth that we live on every day. I call God the Prime Creator, because I want all those to understand that this story is completely unbiased and unprejudiced to any affiliation with any religion, and the God of my understanding is not only an earthly God, but a universal God. I will also refer to God as mother earth, Gaia, which I came to learn through this journey is the female piece of God. As in everything that is in our universe, you must balance darkness with light, peace with war, and recognize the two faces of God, the female and the male. We are all pieces of this Prime Creator. We are a part of God.

Two miracles happened in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. My son and I drowned in a flooded marsh and not only lived to tell the tale, but we are better than ever. I was "dead" for fifteen minutes. I was told by beings of light how to save myself, and my small son. And I was given a message on how to heal the Earth.

As you are reading this I ask you with all my heart to open yourself to the possibility of what I say. I feel it is imperative that we unite this world as one planet with one common goal - to establish peace and prosperity for all, not just the select few who were blessed to be in the right place at the right time. We are entering a new phase of humanity and what I will tell you in this website will help us as a race to assimilate the changes that the future will bring.

I have not had God in my life for forty years. I did however, as a child, chase the possibility of God. I felt that those people who had undying faith were the lucky ones, and the fact that I believed in nothing made me the loser. As a child I often spoke to God, but never felt heard or connected. It took life throwing me into a flooded marsh and drowning me, to open my eyes to the reality of how much we are all connected to the Divine power. It is showing up now more than ever. You can go on the internet and find thousands of hits about the next phase of humanity, the era of enlightenment and the time of change. These stories are in our religions and in the stories of the ancient cultures such as the Mayans, the Egyptians and the Native Americans. We have all been waiting for the moment when things would be different, for surely God will do something to save us from ourselves. Well there is something in the works, but God is merely directing it through people like me, and it will take the faith of people like you to create the reality. Once again I am getting ahead of myself but in the messages I am receiving, I am being given a way for us all to participate in a healing of mother earth, and a launching of the human race into a time of health, peace and positive change. But for this to happen, you will need to sit in meditation for just one hour of your life.

I once heard in the star trek series "resistance is futile." I did not want to be a messenger for God, but when God wishes our awakening, it will happen. So now I will tell you the truth of what happened to me, after a car accident that occurred in Nov. 2002.

My son and I were travelling to a friend’s house for an afternoon of play, when disaster hit. My car was swept into a flooded marsh after hydroplaning. The car landed upside down in this boggy marsh, and sank to the bottom. I tried to open the car's windows, but the power windows failed and we were trapped inside. I spoke with my tiny son who was four at the time, and assured him that mommy would get him out. The car was filling up quickly with the cold murky water and I held my son's coat tightly in my hand, while I waited to be fully submerged. I hoped that I could open the door after the car equalized with water and we would swim out. My final words to my little boy as the water came over his head was "hold your breath honey; mommy will have us out soon". I watched him take a large gulp of the remaining air, and the water took him. When I felt the last air pocket escape the car I tried the door. It wouldn’t budge! The other door was equally stuck. I struggled with the doors several times, to no avail. We were trapped and going to die.

At this point I took Evan’s little body and pushed it over the seat, hoping beyond hope that he would find air. As I struggled to free us from this coffin on wheels, I realized I had to breathe. As I drank the deep breath of water into my lungs, the fiery feeling added panic to the moment. I wanted my baby back and I swung my arms feverously about in an effort to find his body. I couldn’t, and I needed to breathe again. That is when I heard a voice, a calm majestic voice, directing me to relax. This voice cooed in my ear, reassuring me that all would be well. I was infused with the knowledge that if I fought the water, my rescuers would not be able to revive me when they arrived. The voice said that if I fought the water I would drown…no shit I thought, I get a wise ass ghost on my deathbed. The voice continued to give me instructions about what was to happen, and that all would be well if I just followed the instructions. I relinquished myself to this voice from beyond, and passed quietly into the other side.

While on the other side I saw beings of light, who once again assured me that my son and I would not only get out of this car, but we would both be fine. They were definite in explaining that I must follow instructions implicitly and not lose faith in their words. I was told to have faith that I would be divinely directed, and I was.

It took my rescuers fifteen minutes to pull my lifeless body from that car, and another seven minutes of CPR to revive me. As my body bolted upright, I blurted "get my baby out of the car". Twenty two minutes had passed, the rescuers jumped back into the freezing bog to retrieve my son, knowing against hope, that he was dead. It took rescuers another five minutes or so to get my boy free from that car. His limp body was transported to the IWK Children’s Hospital, where he was immediately hooked to every machine known to mankind.

The team of emergency doctors and neurologists were waiting for me. They assured me that my sweet little boy was indeed brain dead, and in addition to this, his internal organs were full of blood. He was haemorrhaging throughout his body and his organs were non- viable. Things were the most bleak I have ever known. That is when the voice came to me again. "Have faith child." The doctors advised me to unplug my baby and let him pass peacefully, for even if a miracle happened and he did live, he would be a vegetable. "No quality of life", is all I remember thinking. Once again I heard the voice, "have faith". For that moment the doctors agreed to keep Evan on life support, but advised me not to hold out any hope. He had less than one percent chance of living and then he would continue to be hooked to all these machines for the rest of his life. Remember, I had no God, so I could not even call for guidance. It was in the quiet of my first moment alone, that I was given the instructions. "Follow the instructions implicitly", memories of the visions and the voice in the lake flooded back to me. There was someone there with me, I was sure of it, and I decided to listen carefully. I was instructed to rebuild my son’s aura by infusing his little body with the auras of others. Twenty minutes at a time was one of the first rules; for if it was longer, you would drain the aura of the giver. They instructed me to parade loving people through Evan's room, each depositing their own energy field into his lifeless body. They were to do this by connecting their flesh to his flesh and allowing their energy to run through his body, and then to give Evan their “gift." If they sang, they were to sing. If they were story tellers, tell a story, and so on. Infuse him with positive energy and your love and your talents, and this will revive him.

I proceeded against hospital protocol to send loving humans into my son’s room every half hour. They then followed the instructions and gave their gift of love. This procession lasted twenty four hours a day, for three days. Dozens and dozens of people came. They "camped out" everyday and every night; loving trusting souls infusing his lifeless body with fresh energy. The fact that I was able to convince the hospital to allow this unorthodox behaviour to happen was a miracle in itself, but on the third day, after 72 hours of constant vigil, my boy opened his little eyes and recognized me. He was back!!!

The doctors were baffled. They continued to tell me that he would never walk or talk or be a normal child again. However their words this time had no effect on me. The guidance and direction from my spiritual light beings had proved to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that he would be fine; after all, my "friend" in the lake had told me so.

Within the first week Evan had recovered all his body functions, and by the end of the second week, he was running down the halls to the hospital playroom. This was indeed an incredible miracle. What had I done to deserve such reprieve by our Almighty Creator? I didn’t know nor did I care. I wanted to take my son home and be done with the whole nightmare. This is when I realized that I might be done with my light friends, but they were not done with me.

I continued to hear the voices and be directed with both visions and seeing auras. Needless to say, I was more than a little freaked out. As time passed I would ask "What do you want of me?" They would speak of the love for the universe and how things have gone terribly wrong. Humanity has spiralled out of control, and has lost its true connection to God and to this Earth. They want desperately for me to give the humans of this world a message from "beyond," that we have inside of us the power to unite this planet as one race with peace and prosperity for all. This power lies inside us all, and when combined with the loving energy of other humans, we can do for this planet what we did for my son. We can revive this Earth and catapult it into healing. With this healing will come a new phase of humanity. We will have a time of peace and harmony. All it will take is our intention, as a united group, and one hour of our time.

So as the voices and visions unravelled I was given the guidance of how to make this all happen. However it will take many of us on this planet to see to the success of the project. As they told me to rotate the humans through my son’s room, they have told me to unite humanity from every corner of the globe. Not every human, just representatives from every corner. We can do this. We need to unite enough people to fire the divine energy system of this planet and jump start it like we did with my boy.

This global project of loving intention is completely possible. Your intention to make it happen can change the outcome of this planet. I will discuss the details of the plan in phase three of this website. I will give you the directions to follow, and you will see how little it will take for you to become an ambassador of light to our home, planet Earth. I beseech you to join me when we fire the Earth grid on July 17, 2007 at 11:11 Greenwich Mean Time — 21:11 (9:11 PM) in your time zone — , and add your energy to this project. I promise you, just one hour of your time and you can help heal this planet, and help create peace among all people. My son and I are examples of the power of positive energy, and what humans are truly capable of when they unite with the intention of love. Pneumonia and Hives

My friend and roommate has been very ill for a few weeks. She started with a bad cold, and it progressed to bronchitis, and now into walking pneumonia. Beside that, she has also had chronic hives, with no known cause (we've examined pretty much every possibility). We've tried so much, but she's been having all these medical cocktails and I'm worried! She's currently on a steroid, an antibacterial, an inhaler, two antihystamines, and an anti-depression medication that is in a very small dose which, in that small dose, is supposedly good for hives.

I've drawn oatmeal baths and used body butter for the itching of the hives, but there's nothing I've found for the occasional swelling, particularly in her feet and more worryingly, her throat. We've gone to Urgent Care and they just gave us the steroids and anti-depression thingy.

I've also tried energy healing, nightly back rubs/massage, opening chakras, and everything else I can think of.

Is there anything else we can do, particularly for the pneumonia which is ruining the end of her semester?

Archangel Healing Meditation

The four cardinal directions invoked in American Indian prayer correspond to the four Archangels in the Judeo-Christian tradition. These angelic forces of healing and guidance can be invoked as a long meditation any time during the day, or as a short prayer before falling asleep. After a little practice, you will literally feel wrapped in a soft blanket of angelic presence.

Sit or lie down, close your eyes and take a few letting go breaths. Center yourself in belly breathing for a few minutes. Place your awareness on the space in front of you, the Eastern Gate of your body temple. Ask for the presence of the Archangel Uriel, whose name in Hebrew means "The Light of God." Stay centered and notice whatever you can about Uriel's presence. Review your current situation, thinking of areas where you need more clarity. Ask Uriel for any help you need in making decisions or in discrimination.

Place your awareness to your right, the Southern Gate of your body temple. Ask for the presence of the Archangel Michael, whose name in Hebrew means "How Like Unto God." Michael is the pure presence of love, forgiveness and wisdom. Stay centered and notice whatever you can about this presence. Review your current situation, thinking of any areas in which love or forgiveness needs to flow. Ask for any insights or help you require.

Place your awareness in back of you, the Western Gate of your body temple. Ask for the presence of the Archangel Raphael, whose name in Hebrew means "The Healer of God." Stay centered and notice whatever you can about Raphael's presence. Review your current situation, thinking of any emotional, physical or spiritual healing you may need. Ask Raphael for that healing. Think, too, about the healing you can bring to others and ask for any help you might need.

Place your awareness to your left, the Northern Gate of your body temple. Ask for the presence of the Archangel Gabriel, whose name in Hebrew means "the strength of God." Stay centered and notice whatever you can about this presence. Gabriel is the angel who helps us overcome fear so that we may bring forth our creative gifts for the benefit of all. Review your current situation and ask for the removal of fear, as well as for help in realizing your creativity.

Become aware of a star of loving light above your head. Feel the Divine Light wash over you like a waterfall and flow through you the way that a river flows through the sand at its bottom. Let the light wash every cell clean, carrying away any fatigue, dis-ease, heaviness or pain. As the light flows through you, imagine that it is dissolving any darkness from around your heart, allowing the Sun within you to shine forth brightly as a blessing to all beings. Conclude with a prayer of thanksgiving for all the gifts of your life, and the most priceless gift of all- life itself.

Unusual Phenomenom or Lightening Ball?

I feel compelled to share a boggling event that occured to me in 1995. It happened while driving one day to visit an Aunt in Lobbuck, TX, a couple of hours from home. It was a georgous West Texas day, not a cloud in the sky! My mother and brother's gfriend were with me. We had just left my Aunt's house when we heard a loud *BANG*! My mother and brother's gfriend yelled from it as it was very startling! Seconds or less, there was a fuzzy, almost surreal white light coming from the front of the car. Instintively, I put my right hand up to shield my face from the possible impact. I was still driving. It then entered the window of my door. My mother saw that when it reached bewteen she and I, it vanished slowly and it's appearance was as if someone had busted a feather pillow. I kept my hands on the wheel until I could pull to the side of the road. There had not been any other cars around. I checked my mother and brother's gfriend to make sure they were okay. I got out of the car and inspeced it for bullet holes or some kind of explanation. If not for my mother and brother's gfriend seeing what I saw, hearing what I heard, I would have blamed it on a wild imagination. Has anyone here experienced anything similar, and does anyone else have any idea what this was? I really don't feel like it was a lightening ball, as it came at us from two seperate directions while in a moving vehicle.

Hot hands?

Does anyone else have chronically hot hands, particularly when working on a healing? My own hands are usually warm enough that I can help warm others', and I was wondering if that might have something to do with the work that I do, or if I just happen to have increased circulation. They actually heat up even more when I'm doing a ritual, giving a massage, working on a healing, or even just meditating with no particular goal in mind. Does it have something to do with the increased energies?

Any thoughts on the subject?

Innumerable, more than hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands of
The Buddha`s disciples did gather (to hear)
The Dharma (which was preached) throughout all times.
For the sake of bringing innumerable sentient beings into enlightenment,
(The Wondrous One) did enter the Dharma Path
Forever has the Buddha possessed such immeasurable Mind
A ferry to bring across Sentient Beings,
Displaying the expedient means of attaining enlightenment
And not enslaving oneself to the return of the Wheel.
(The Buddha), eternally residing in this (state), propounding the Dharma,
We also have been existing in this same (state).

Possessing various supernatural powers,
(And) in order (to lead) sentient beings to attainment,
Although quite near, (we) fail to see.
May we as sentient beings see fully the (Path) to Enlightenment
(And) may we pay homage to the Buddha's ashes (i.e. the Dharma)
(And) come to realize universal love for all mankind.
Adopting a heart of reverence,
Obedient (to the needs of) sentient beings,
Comprehending directly the nature of Mind,
And desiring with pure intent to see the Buddha's (Path),
May we hold dear our precious existence (within this lifetime).
In time, we as well as all followers,
(Shall) depart the (seat) upon Vulture's Peak,
And preach to all sentient beings,
Eternally possessing that which does not perish.
Because (we) hold the Power of Expedient Means
(And) do not discriminate between that with stains and that without,
Within other countries, practicing ascetic practices,
If there are those who would profit from belief (in the Dharma)
Among those people must we be.
For this sake must we expound the Supreme Dharma.
Thou, hearken unto these words!
(And) at once shall I manifest non-returning within my Mind.
I look upon all sentient beings
(And shall) release them from the ocean of suffering.
Because my Body can not be seen,
(You) must adopt within (yourselves) adoration (and reverence),
(And come to) depend upon this Mind of Love.
For this reason does the Buddha depart to teach the Most Holy Doctrine.
Buddha, He of Excellent Unsurpassed Powers!

Thus, is the Root Buddha among us,
Present for all time, from atop Vulture's Peak as well as<
Within our very homes here within this world.
Though sentient beings may (one day) all perish,
And the (world) be consumed in the Great Fire,
Here within this (Pure) Land shall we dwell in peace.
The Most HeavenlyLord Buddha, Fulfillment Eternal.
(Here within this) garden forest, we of the identical rank,
Possessing various treasures of solemn (nature),
Among the flower lands of various treasures,
This becomes a Pleasure Land for all sentient beings.
Various gods, beat upon the heavenly drums!
Dramatic music shall fill the skies,
(With) lotus mandalas, like a rain,
Scattered by the Buddhas and common people alike.

Though the Pure Land is torn asunder,
(and) all sentient beings burned (alive),
Anxiety, fear and the myriad agonies and sufferings
I shall see that all is (Dharmically) fulfilled.
The various crimes and
evil deeds of peoples' former lifetimes, these Karma deeds do I hold,
The Root Buddha, Knower of this past.
Listen now to the names of the Three Treasures!
Master of various benevolent (powers),
Those who may become gentle and tender,
Shall see me manifest
And preach the Dharma here.
At some time, for the sake of all sentient beings,
The Buddha's essence shall manifest enormously.
Then, there will be those who can fathom this Buddha.

For indeed, it is difficult to perceive a Buddha,
Something like my Very Mind Wisdom,
Enormous (as a) Keen, Shining Light,
Existing without and (uncountable),
Mastering the Paths and manifesting in this very place.
You, one of wisdom,
Dispose of the doubts you still possess.
In one fell swoop - cast them off-
.The words of the Buddha (are not spoken) in vain.
Grasp hold of the Great Doctor's expedient means,
And, as is treating a mad child,
and although he says (he will surely) die,
Explain to him (as false) the extremity of his view.
Likewise, I am the Father of this World,
(And) shall save all from their various afflictions and miseries.

To lead the common man toward enlightenment,
Actually, although he possesses many imperfections,
Eternally, with the sight I hold,
Shall I be the bridge man desires.
Even as man possesses the Five Loose Passions,
I shall not allow him to fall within the evil paths.
I shall forever lead all sentient beings along the Path.
Realizing the guidance along the Path,
So you shall obey the route.
I preach various Dharmas,
At all times, alone do I implement these Form-Meditations.
For whatever man holds within,
Enters this, the Supreme Path,
(And) quickly realizes the accomplishment of the Buddha's Form.

The Sacred Space of the Heart

Due to a request, I am going to write a little bit about my experience with entering the Sacred Space of the Heart.

When I say entering the Sacred Space of the Heart, I do mean exactly that. When one enters the Sacred Space it is actually transfering ones place of awareness - which is usually in the head - into the Heart. So one first finds the Sacred Space and then explores that Place. So entering the Sacred Space of the Heart is not about contemplating the Heart Chakra, visualizing, or anything of the like. It is moving into that special place of Creation within all of us. The Sacred Space of the Heart is our True Home, and a Doorway to Remembering who we really are and what our purpose is in this life.

This information on how to do this meditation may be found within Drunvalo Melchizedek's book "Living in the Heart".

Everybody's Sacred Space is very likely to be very different. You see, when you go into that Place it will appear to you as an actual place. To me it is the inside of a pyramid, to Drunvalo it is a cave, and to you it could be absolutely anything. Each day that I entered the Sacred Space I discovered something new - it really was quite a fantastic journey whilst I was doing it.

One thing which is of prime importance for me, which I found within that Sacred Space of the Heart, is a Dazzling White Flame. This part of the Sacred Place of the Heart may be visualized as a medtiation unto itself, becuase this Divine Flame is that part of the Presence of God which dwells within our bodies, in our Heart. By placing ones attention upon this Flame of Love we allow Perfection to manifest in our body, feelings, mind and in our lives, for this Flame never did, doesn't now, nor never will have an imperfection within It. It is simply a matter of placing ones attention upon It and allowing that Perfection to flow forth as the Light of God that never fails to bring about every Perfect thing.

Mental, physical, and symbolic anchors are wonderful tools, they are not just used for healing and metaphysics.

The are wonderful tools for every day things such as if you are feeling depressed or upset, you use an anchor created with many happy memories "canbe added to with more" which brings a smile to your face, in turn releasing the brain good chemicals, changing your mood, isn't it amazing how the brain works. : ) The trigger to my happy anchor is me just rubbing my thumb and fore finger together. simple is it not.

There are many different forms of anchors, i believe symbols link us to memories of both our minds and group minds.

I use the anchor word "Angels" to connect with my Angels.

I will post some exercises which will enable simple creation of anchors abit later.

They can also be use for self confidance and basically anything you can think of.

Simply we no longer breath as we should to have our bodies function to its highest ability. This is not just in medation but in every day use.

Feedback during Sessions? ...

Lately, I've been pondering the value of giving feedback during healing sessions. While doing "energy work" (Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Pranic healing, etc.) I get information about chakra energy and the status of a client's energetic fields. I've hesitated telling them anything during the session, because I want them to stay "out of their head" while I work on them.

My feeling is that if I tell them that, say, they "have an energy leak in their 4th Chakra" or "a block in their 2nd Chakra", that they will immediately focus on that area and alter the flow of the session.

Any thoughts about giving feedback, as a practitioner?

Great pic Dave! :-) Thanks for sharing. I've recently been considering where the spiral would start. That's a good mapping. Was the spiral there in the original or did you add that? Anyways yes... quite interesting. In the Japanese (eastern) teachings there weren't chakras but the hara system. I also find it interesting that the Tibetan system has 5 energy centers, 5 element, etc..

Very interestingly actually Charles, i began super imposing the symbol about 12 months ago while channeling some info.

To my amazement just the other day i came across the picture as is on the Web. Can't remember who drew it.

It is also a very intresting way to move energy. : )
Ive only used the reiki symbol for this.
And it must have been used for this purpose across the West and East.

What contact did Buddism have in the West?
Or Western Philosophy have in the East?

Which sect of Buddism does the power symbol come from?

I would guess that the line on the reiki power symbol continues to the higerself? and makes a left hand turn ? into GOD(source)? hehehe

The similarities unfortunately finish with the basic visual spirial.

This Western depiction doesn't depict the Hara line/ spine/ dural tube? And also rotates the other way? Why? Different purpose, one for charging one for cleanseing? And no connection to the source, just to the crown.

I'll have another look on the Web.

John the Baptist finger is also very intresting as was explained in the Di Vincie Code what ever it was, any way the bible depicts John the Baptist pointing two fingers to the sky, this is also prevalant in pictures of his followers.

Tibetan system has 5 energy centers, 5 element, etc..
These are different to the TCM elements arn't they?

Also that is intresting about the Hara originally being in the Original system of healing, so when was it picked up by the other cultural influenses.

Well the power symbol pops up all over the place from North American rock art (petroglyphs) to Japanese Buddhist temples to spiraling galaxies in outer space.

I believe that sometime after Hawayo Takata's death in 1980 all of the masters she attuned got together and exchanged symbols only to find a lot of differences. Confusion arose and people branched off. Since spiritual energy is a universal concept many people applied the existing popularity of the 7 chakra system, the concepts of the auric field, etc to the system of Reiki healing. I don't think there's anything wrong with this. Anyways I assume sometime between 1937 and 1980 these various new pieces were fit in to fill a void in Takata's teachings or the Western understanding of energy. Also during the 70's and 80's Tibet was seen as the ancient source of spiritual knowledge and so a lot of 'Tibetan' influences were mixed into the pot. I think in the end it might be good to evolve the art of healing into something more universal combining the knowledge of all cultures. But to call this system Reiki would be a misnomer.

I'm not sure what you mean about what contact Buddhism has in the West? The power symbol might have come from Tendai Buddhism although it's been said that it comes from the Sutras. It's also helpful to note that in the West we call it the power symbol however in Japan it is the Earth symbol. Power is one of the attributes of Earth energy.

I've heard various opinions on the direction of the symbol. Clockwise to put energy in and counter-clockwise to take too much energy out. Although in traditional Reiki healing methods I am not aware of the Master attempting to move energy here or there based on their intuition. Reiki goes where it's needed in the amount that is required. Reiki does not come from the practioner but from the source of all things.

I think the John the Baptist finger is a mudra of some sort. Although I'm not aware of this in the Japanese teachings. There were various mudras in Christianity some of which are still used by priests or in the er... mind failure... some branches of Catholicism use them. I want to say Byzantine? They put the forefinger, middle finger, and thumb together forming the trinity when they make the sign of the cross.

I think what we're coming to find out is that all that matters is the intention. In the book I'm reading currently (<u>The Reiki Sourcebook</u> by Bronwen and Frans Stiene) they say that the symbols and mantras were not even part of Usui's original teachings. These came about later to help people who had no concept of energy... sort of "training wheels" which could be discarded later on.

In the West we seem to have the idea that symbols have power and that the more symbols you know the more power you can get. This contradicts Usui's teachings and the concept of Reiki as a universal spiritual energy. I think a lot of the focus shifting to symbols and mantras comes from Wicca.

What does TCM stand for?

This was supposed to be the ultimate alchemic cure.
I think prehaps metaphysical alchemicists may have been on to something, working directly with the elements with the body. As in other cultures. I will post another revalent picture depicting the elements as triangles.

It appears that the Jewish culture came accross the Power symbol at soem time? or the other way?
I think prehaps it would be a good idea to get the opion of someone who has a good knowledge of the Kabalistic traditions.

I was invited by the moderator (Dave) to post here about a healing modality that I've been studying, called "VortexHealing".

VH was founded by a man named Ric Weinman in 1994, and is the continuation of a divine lineage that existed in England from 753BCE to 1247CE. The "vortex" of VortexHealing is a gateway to a healing realm of divine consciousness, created by an avatar (Hindu term for divine being). It took us most of the afternoon to plant the crystals, mostly in trees, in the nine places starting at the centre.

We think that we were immediately suspected as we were not arriving in a Ferrari, Merc or Land Rover. We had only been on the grounds for short time when one of us was contacted by a security guard, thankfully running interference as the others secured the centre point of our grid elsewhere. With the centre point anchored, we then proceeded to the 8 outer points which we had mapped out before hand. We manage to be escorted of a farm at the NW point. Each point of the grid is exactly 45 degrees apart on the landscape and ranging for 2 to 3 miles from the centre point, land access and circumstances permitting. It is just as well we did this when we did because in the next day or so access to the public was cut off.

A week later one of us was contacted by the police and asked to come in for questioning. The car we used had been traced and they needed to know if we were anarchists. Nothing came of it though, however it is interesting to note.

We have twinned each planted crystal with another so we have a remote grid that is tuned to the frequency of the planted one. On Sunday the 3rd of July at midday we will be meditating on opening our political figureheads up to the one heart. We hope you will join your focus with ours.

Mass protests have been organised to coincide with his meeting and the hotel grounds and miles around have sealed off. However with crystal grid in place we are already within their boundaries. This is a wonderful opportunity for collective focus, we know where they are all going to be and there is a physical grid of light set up to ground our loving intentions.

Preliminaries
Let us quiet down by focusing on the breath. If our minds are very distracted we can count the breath -- out, in, one; out, in, two -- up to eleven a few times. If our minds are relatively quiet there is no need to count. We can just focus on the sensation of the breath coming in and out of the nose.

Then we reaffirm our motivation. In the West, "motivation" seems to imply the psychological or emotion reasons for doing something. That is not the meaning of the Tibetan word 'dun-pa. It is rather the aim, it is what we want to accomplish. Our goal or aim in coming here and listening to this talk is to get a clearer picture of Bon and its relationship with Buddhism. We are doing this so that we can follow whatever path we are on, whether Bon or Buddhist, with more clarity and without sectarian views. This is so that we can put our full attention onto the spiritual path to reach enlightenment for the benefit of everyone. We reaffirm this aim.

Then we make the conscious decision to listen with concentration. Just as we make such a decision before meditating, it is also important before a class, before work, or before doing anything. We decide that if our attention wanders, we will bring it back and if we become sleepy we will try to wake ourselves up, so that we can take full advantage of being here. We make that conscious decision.

Introduction
This evening I have been asked to speak about the Bon tradition and its relation to Buddhism. When His Holiness the Dalai Lama speaks of the Tibetan traditions, he often refers to the five traditions of Tibet: the Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya, Gelug and Bon. From His Holiness' point of view, Bon has an equal place with the four Tibetan Buddhist lineages. His Holiness is very broadminded. Not everybody has agreed with such a stance. There have been and still are a lot of very strange ideas about Bon amongst Buddhist teachers. From the Western psychological point of view, when people are trying very hard to emphasize positive things in their personalities before they have really resolved things on a deep level, then the shadow side gets projected onto an enemy. "We are the good guys on a proper pure path and they are the devil." Unfortunately, the Bonpos have been the traditional objects of this projection in Tibetan history. We will look at the historical reasons for this. It definitely needs to be understood within the context of Tibetan political history.

It is just a fact that Bon has received a lot of negative publicity and a bad image within Tibet itself. Westerners are often attracted to controversy, as if something that receives a bad image is more interesting. The other traditions are boring and straight. An equally strange idea is that Bon is more exotic than Tibetan Buddhism. Some Westerners look at it as a place where they can find magic, Lobsang Rampa type of stuff like drilling a hole in people's foreheads to open their third eyes. Neither view is accurate. We need to try to get a more balanced perspective and look at Bon with respect, as His Holiness does. It is important to understand Tibetan history to see how a negative view of Bon has developed and to see how its approach to spiritual development relates to Tibetan Buddhism.

Tracing the Origins of Bon - Shenrab Miwo
According to the Bon tradition itself, it was founded by Shenrab Miwo, who lived thirty thousand years ago. That would place him somewhere in the Stone Age. I don't think this means he was a caveman. A common way to show great respect to a lineage to say it is ancient. The actual dates of his lifespan are not possible to prove in any case. Shenrab Miwo lived in Omolungring. The description of this place seems to be a mixture of ideas about Shambhala, Mt. Meru, and Mt. Kailash. It is the description of an ideal spiritual land. It was said to be within a larger area called Tazig. The word "Tazig" can be found both in Persian and Arabic to refer to either Persia or Arabia. In other contexts, it refers to a nomadic tribe. In the Bon tradition, Tazig is described as being to the west of the kingdom of Zhang-zhung, which was in Western Tibet.

This suggests that Bon came from Central Asia, and probably an Iranian cultural area. It is possible that Shenrab Miwo lived in an ancient Iranian culture and then came to Zhang-zhung. Some versions say he came sometime between the eleventh and seventh centuries BC That is also a very long time ago and, again, there is no way of proving one or the other position. What is clear is that by the time of the founding of the Yarlung Dynasty in Central Tibet (127 BC) there was already something of a native tradition. We do not even know what it was called at that time.

The Iranian Connection
The Iranian connection is fascinating. There has been much speculation about it. It has to be looked at not only from the Bon point of view, but from the Buddhist point of view as well. There is a tremendous amount of material in common between Bon and Buddhism. The Bonpos say that the Buddhists got it from them and the Buddhists say the Bonpos got it from them. Each side claims to be the source. It is a difficult issue to decide. How do we know?

Buddhism went from India to Afghanistan very early on. In fact, two of the disciples of the Buddha himself were said to have come from Afghanistan and to have brought Buddhism back there. In the first and second centuries BC, we do find Buddhism going over into Iran itself and up into Central Asia. Buddhism was there. If Bon says ideas that look very similar to what the Buddha taught came from a Persian area into Western Tibet during a period long before it came directly from India, it is quite possible that it came from a mixture of Buddhism and the local Iranian cultural ideas that were present in that area. The area that seems the most logical source for Iranian Buddhist ideas is Khotan.

Khotan
Khotan is to the north of Western Tibet. As you know, Tibet is a very high plateau with a lot of mountains. As we go further north to the end of that plateau, there is another mountain range, and then it goes all the way down to below sea level to a desert in east Turkistan, which is now called the Xinjiang province of China. Khotan was at the foot of those mountains as we enter the desert. It was an Iranian cultural area; people came from Iran. It was a tremendous center of Buddhism and of trade. It made a significant cultural impact on Tibet, although the Tibetans downplay this and say everything came from either India or China.

Even the Tibetan writing system came from the Khotanese alphabet. The Tibetan Emperor Songtsen-gampo sent a minister to Khotan to get a writing system for the Tibetan language. The trade road to Khotan went through Kashmir, and as it happened, the great teacher from Khotan that they were hoping to meet happened to be there. So, they got the writing system from him in Kashmir, and the story became that they got a writing system from Kashmir. If we analyze the writing system, we can see that it actually comes from Khotan. Of course, the Khotanese system originally came from India. The point is that there was a lot of cultural contact with Khotan.

We can see that the Bon presentation is very plausible. It certainly could be that it came from Khotan. From this point of view, we could say that Buddhism came to Tibet from two directions: from Khotan or the Iranian cultures into Western Tibet and then later from India. In the former case, it could have come in the form of early Bon. It is quite possible that Buddhism, and in particular dzogchen, came from both sides and that each side borrowed from the other. That is probably closer to the truth.

Description of the Universe and the Afterlife
One element of Bon that comes from an Iranian cultural belief is the account of how the universe evolved. Buddhism has the abhidharma teachings on Mt. Meru and so on, but that is not the only explanation. There is also the Kalachakra explanation, which is slightly different. The Bon texts also contain the abhidharma explanation, just as it is in Buddhism, but they also have their own unique explanation with certain aspects that look quite Iranian, such as a dualism between light and darkness. Some Russian scholars have seen similarities between the Tibetan and ancient Persian names for various gods and figures. This Iranian connection is what they are pointing to.

What is quite unique to early Bon is an emphasis on the afterlife, particularly on the in-between state. When kings died, they went to an afterlife. Because they needed things for their journey, there was animal sacrifice, and possibly even human sacrifice, although that is debatable. Certainly, they buried pictures, food and all the things that a person would need on their journey after life.

It is quite interesting to note that Tibetan Buddhism adopted this emphasis on the in-between state. There is mention of the bardo in Indian Buddhism but it receives very little emphasis, whereas there are a lot of bardo rituals and so on in Tibetan Buddhism. We can find the emphasis on preparation of an afterlife in ancient Persian culture as well. The only aspect of early Bon that we can actually speak of with confidence is the practice of burial rituals and what is found in the tombs shows that belief in an afterlife. Other than that it is just speculation. We can actually examine the burial tombs of the ancient kings.

The influence of Zhang-zhung went over into the Yarlung area of central Tibet and lasted from the very earliest times until the founding of the first Tibetan empire by Songsten-gampo. He made alliances by marrying princesses from different countries. It is very well known that he married a princess from China and one from Nepal. However, he also married a princess from Zhang-zhung. Consequently, he was influenced by each of these cultures.

Buddhism was not fully developed in this early period. Its influence was very minor actually, but the king did build Buddhist temples on various "power points." Tibet was seen as a female demon lying on her back and it was thought that building temples on various acupuncture points would subdue the wild forces. Seeing things in terms of acupuncture points, subduing demons and so on is very Chinese. This is the form of Buddhism present in Tibet at that time. What is relevant here is that Songtsen-gampo, for all his adoption of Buddhism, maintained the Bon burial rituals that were practiced in Yarlung before him. This was obviously reinforced by his Zhang-zhung queen. So, the burial rituals, with the sacrifices and so on, continued into this early Buddhist period.

The Exile of the Bonpos
Around 760, Emperor Trisong-detsen invited Guru Rinpoche, Padmasambhava, from India. They built the first monastery, Samyay, and began a monastic tradition. They had a translation bureau at Samyay to translate texts not only from Indian languages and Chinese, but also from Zhang-zhung, which was apparently already a written language at that time. There are two Tibetan writing systems. The printed system is what Songtsen-gampo got from Khotan. According to the research of some great scholars, like Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, Zhang-zhung had an earlier writing system, which was the basis for the handwritten form of Tibetan. At Samyay, they were translating Bon texts, presumably on burial and so on, from the Zhang-zhung language in its own script into Tibetan.

There was the famous debate between Indian and Chinese Buddhism at Samyay, then a religious council was set up and, in 779, Buddhism was declared to be the state religion of Tibet. There were undoubtedly a lot of political considerations involved. Shortly afterwards, in 784 there was a persecution of the Bon faction. This is where all the bad blood begins. It is important to analyze this. What was actually going on?

Within the imperial court were a pro-China faction, a pro-India faction and an ultra-conservative xenophobic native faction. Emperor Tri Songdetsen's father had married a Chinese queen who had a lot of influence and consequently the father had been pro-Chinese in many policies. The conservative faction had assassinated the father. I think this is one of the reasons for the Chinese losing the debate. There was no way that they could win a debate anyway. The Chinese had no tradition of debating and they were matched against the best debater in India. They did not have a common language, so what language did they debate in? It was all being translated. Obviously, it was a political move to get rid of the Chinese faction. Because of the Chinese, the Emperor's father had been killed. Now, in addition, the king wanted to get rid of the anti-foreign faction as well. The Indian faction was the least threat to the political power of the king. So, the conservative political faction was sent into exile. Those were the Bonpos.

What is confusing is when people say that the Bonpos were doing burial rituals in the court. Those were not the Bonpos who were sent into exile. The Bonpos who were exiled were these conservative ministers and political figures who were kicked out. Interestingly, burial rituals and sacrifice rituals continued in the court even after their exile. To commemorate a treaty with China signed in 821, a pillar was erected that described the ceremonies. They sacrificed animals. Although they no longer had imperial burials, there was still some influence there. I think it is quite important to realize that the bad blood with the Bonpos was actually a political thing; it was not really about religion or rituals.

The conservative faction was sent to two areas. One is Yunnan, in the area of present day southwestern China, north of Burma, and the other was Gilgit in northwest Pakistan, very close to where Guru Rinpoche came from. We can infer that the Bonpos might have gotten some teachings on dzogchen from that area, where Guru Rinpoche received them as well, and that the Bonpos could have brought them back to Tibet later, independently of Guru Rinpoche. There are many possible explanations for Bon's having a tradition of dzogchen separate from the Buddhist tradition that came from Guru Rinpoche. It is not just a matter of someone says so and therefore it is true. One has to look at the history.

Bon Buried Treasure Texts
Many Zhang-zhung texts were buried at the time of exile, put into the mud walls of Samyay monastery by a great master named Jampa-namka. Guru Rinpoche was burying texts at the same time, because he felt the time was not ripe, people were not sophisticated enough to understand them. He buried only dzogchen texts. The Bonpos buried all of the Bon teachings, including dzogchen. So, while both Bonpos and Nyingmas were burying texts at the same time, the reasons for doing so and the texts buried were quite different.

The next Tibetan Emperor, Relpachen, was a fanatic. He decreed that seven households support each monk. Many of the taxes were diverted to supporting the monasteries. The monks in the religious council had a tremendous amount of political power. The next Emperor to come along, Langdarma, gets portrayed as the devil because he persecuted the religious council and stopped all the taxes from going to the monasteries. He disbanded the monasteries, but he did not get rid of the libraries. We know this because when Atisha came to Tibet in the eleventh century he remarked at how wonderful the libraries were. Langdarma basically stopped the monastic institutions because they were becoming too strong politically. So there was a time in which the monasteries were deserted.

The Bon texts buried in Samyay were first discovered in 913. Some shepherds were staying in the monastery and when they leaned against a wall, it crumbled revealing some texts. The bulk of the Bon texts were discovered about a century later by a great Bonpo master named Shenchen Luga. In 1017, he codified them. They were mostly non-dzogchen material, covering what we would call teachings in common with Tibetan Buddhism. It was only after this that Nyingmas start to discover texts in Samyay and in other monasteries. A number of masters found both Bon and Nyingma texts, and often in the same place. The Nyingma texts were mostly about dzogchen. We are on a more solid historical ground when we consider the new phase of Bon, the old phase being before the exile and burial of texts.

Comparing Bon and Tibetan Buddhism
We find that there is a tremendous amount in common with the Tibetan Buddhist traditions. This is why His Holiness calls Bon one of the five traditions. The Bonpos would not like it, but we can call them another form of Tibetan Buddhism. It depends on how we define a Buddhist tradition. Most of the terminology is the same. Bon talks about enlightenment, attaining enlightenment, Buddhas, and so on. Certain terms are different as are the names of various deities, but the basic teachings are there. There are some very trivial differences such as circumambulating counterclockwise rather than clockwise. The type of ceremonial hat is different. The monks' robes are identical except that part of the vest is blue rather than red or yellow.

Bon has a tradition of debate, exactly as the Tibetan Buddhist traditions do. The debate tradition goes back very far, so again we have to wonder who started it. It was certainly present in the Indian monasteries much earlier than its appearance in Tibet. It could have come into the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, however, through Bon. On the other hand, it does not necessarily have to be that one copied it from the other.

What is very interesting is that the Bonpo debate tradition follows the Gelug debate tradition very closely. Many of the Bonpo monks even train in debate at the Gelug monasteries and even receive Geshe degrees. That suggests that although Bon has dzogchen, the interpretation of Madhyamaka is closer to the Gelug interpretation than to the Nyingma one. Otherwise, they could not join in the Gelug debates. The similarities between Bon and Tibetan Buddhism are not exclusively in relation to Nyingma. It is not just a clone of Nyingma with different names. It is much more complex.

Bon also emphasizes the various traditional Indian sciences, which they study much more intensely than in the Buddhist monasteries -- medicine, astrology, poetic meters, and so on. Within the Buddhist monasteries, these subjects are emphasized much more in Amdo in eastern Tibet than in central Tibet.

Both Bon and Tibetan Buddhism have monasteries and monastic vows. It is quite interesting that although many of the vows are the same in the two traditions, Bon has certain vows that one would expect Buddhists to have but they do not. For example, Bonpos have a vow of being vegetarian. Buddhists don't. The Bon morality is a little stricter than the Buddhist.

Bon has a system of tulkus, which is the same as that in the Buddhist monasteries. They have Geshes. They have Prajnaparamita, Madhyamaka, Abhidharma, and all of the divisions that we find in the Buddhist texts. Some of the vocabulary and the presentations are slightly different, but the variation is no more dramatic than that between one Buddhist lineage and another. For example, Bon has its own account of the creation of the world, but we find a unique account in Kalachakra as well. This is a general picture. Bon is not so strange.

Tibetan Culture and Essential Teachings
I think it is important to try to discern the aspects of Buddhism that were adopted from Bon, which reflect the native Tibetan approach, so that we have a clearer idea of what is Tibetan culture and what is essential Buddhism. It is also important to try to discern cultural aspects from the essential teachings of Bon.

A fourfold process of healing has been fully adopted by all the Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Someone comes with a sickness and the first thing one does is to throw a mo, which is a method of divination. That comes out of Bon. In ancient times, they did not do mos with dice, as they commonly do now, but with a rope tied into various knots. The mo indicates if harmful spirits are causing the sickness and if so, which rituals to perform to propitiate them. Secondly, one consults astrology to determine the most effective time for performing the rituals. Astrology is done in terms of the Chinese elements -- earth, water, fire, metal and wood. Then thirdly, the rituals are done to clear way external harmful influences. Afterwards, fourthly, one takes medicine.

The theory behind rituals is slightly different in Buddhism and Bon. From a Buddhist point of view, we work with karma and look at the external situation as being basically a reflection of karma. A ritual or puja helps to activate positive karmic potentials. Bon places an equal emphasis on harmonizing the external forces and then the internal karmic situation.

In both cases, these pujas for healing use tormas, which are toned down remnants of the ancient sacrifice rituals. The tormas, made from barley flour, molded into the form of little animals, and used as scapegoats undoubtedly comes from Bon. They are given to the harmful spirits: "Take this and leave the sick person alone."

The whole issue of sacrifice is very interesting. The Bonpos say, "We didn't do that, that was an earlier tradition in Tibet." The Buddhists say, "It was the Bonpos, we didn't do that." Obviously, everyone wants to deny having made sacrifices and undoubtedly there were sacrifices. Milarepa mentions that they were going on his time. Even as recently as in 1974 when His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave the Kalachakra empowerment in Bodhgaya for the first time, he spoke very strongly to people coming from the border regions of Tibet about stopping animal sacrifice practices. This is something that has been around for a long time.

Pictures of various deities are used in Bonpo bardo rituals and in many Buddhist bardo rituals as well. This goes back to the Iranian/Bonpo burial rituals where things were put into the tomb with the dead person.

Another thing borrowed from Bon into Tibetan Buddhism is the "space harmony web," a spider web-like configuration of multicolored strings representing the five elements. It comes from the idea of having to harmonize the external elements before one can work on the internal elements or karma. A web is designed according to divination and so on and is hung outside. Sometimes they are called spirit catchers, but that is not quite what they are. They are meant to harmonize the elements and tell the spirits to leave us alone. It is very Tibetan.

The concept of life spirit (bla), which is in Bon and Buddhism, comes from the Central Asian Turkic idea of qut, the spirit of a mountain. Whoever ruled the area around a certain sacred mountain was the Khan, the ruler of the Turks and later of the Mongols. The king was the person who embodied this qut or life spirit. He had charisma and could rule.

Someone's life spirit can be stolen by harmful spirits. All the Tibetan Buddhist traditions have pujas to hook back a life spirit that has been stolen by harmful spirits. They involve a ransom: here is a torma, give me back my life spirit. How do you know that your life spirit has been stolen? From a Western point of view, we might call it a nervous breakdown or shell shock, where someone cannot cope with life. Someone whose life spirit has been stolen is unable to organize his or her life. This life spirit rules our life like the Khan rules the country. The Tibetan word for life spirit, "la," is used in the word lama. A lama is somebody who really has a life spirit. La is also used in some contexts to translate white bodhichitta, so it is a very strong material force or essence within the body.

Then there is the prosperity spirit. If it is strong, everything will go well and we will be prosperous. The Tibetan word is "yang" (g.yang). "Yang" is also the Chinese word for sheep. At Losar, the Tibetan new year, one eats a sheep's head and moulds a sheep's head out of tsampa, toasted barley grain. This represents the prosperity spirit. It clearly comes in from old Bon rituals.

The idea of prayer flags also comes from Bon. They are in the colors of the five elements and are hung to harmonize the external elements so that things will be in balance and we can do internal work. Many prayer flags have the image of the wind horse (lungta, rlung-rta), which is associated with the horse of fortune. China was the first country to develop a postal system, in which the postmen rode horses. There were certain places where they would stop and change horses. Those postal stage horses were the wind horses. The Chinese words are the same. The idea is that good fortune will come on a horse like the postman bringing goods, letters, money, etc. It is very Tibetan/Chinese.

Certain aspects of Bon healing came into Buddhism such as sprinkling consecrated water with a feather. In all Buddhist initiation rituals, there is a peacock feather in a vase. The burning of leaves and branches from the juniper tree, called sang in Tibetan, is done on the tops of mountains to greet someone who is coming. They do it along the side of the road when His Holiness comes back into Dharamsala. It is associated with making offerings to local spirits.

The emphasis on oracles in Tibetan Buddhism is often confused with shamanism, but oracles and shamans are quite different. An oracle is a spirit who speaks through a medium. It is channeling. Shamans, found in Siberia, Turkey, Africa, etc., are people who enter a trance in which they go to different realms and speak to various spirits, usually the spirits of ancestors. The spirits give them answers to various questions. When the shamans come out of trance, they deliver the message from the ancestors. In contrast, a medium usually has no memory whatsoever of what the oracle said through him or her. Oracles became associated with protectors. The Nechung oracle is also the protector called Nechung. A trace of shamanism, however, is reflected in a division of things as being on, above and below the earth, which is prevalent in Bon material and then came into Buddhism.

Buddha taught a tremendous amount on many topics. Wherever Buddhism went in Asia, people emphasized elements that resonated with their culture. There is mention of pure lands in Indian Buddhism but it was not emphasized. The Chinese, who had the Taoist idea of going to the Western land of the immortals, put tremendous emphasis on the pure lands and expanded it tremendously. Thus, we get pure land Buddhism. It is one of the most significant Chinese Buddhist schools. Likewise, within Indian Buddhism, we do find discussion of protectors, of various spirits, offering pujas and so on, but the Tibetans expanded these elements tremendously because it was in their culture.

Conclusion
I think it is very important to have a great deal of respect for the Bon tradition. There are many things that can be identified as Bon or as Tibetan culture which are not completely in common with Tibetan Buddhism. There are various elements in the Buddhist teachings found in Bon as well. The debate about who copied what from whom is pointless. Buddhism and Bon had contact with each other and there is no reason why they would not have influenced each other.

It is important to understand that making the Bonpos into the bad guys is, on the one hand, political -- a leftover from their being super-conservative in the eighth century. On the other hand, it is psychological -- people who emphasize their positive sides will tend to project their negative sides onto somebody. This phenomenon is found particularly in fundamentalist Buddhist traditions with super guru devotion and a big emphasis on a protector. The protector becomes the important thing. The texts say terrible things about anyone who is against the Dharma or against the said tradition. Smash our enemies, trample them, tear their eyes out, etc. I think it is much more appropriate to follow the example of His Holiness in thinking of there being five Tibetan traditions, each of which teaches completely valid paths to enlightenment. They share many things in common and they talk about reaching the same goal, enlightenment.

Within what they share in common, there are certain things that can be identified as Tibetan culture and others which are more Buddhist. It is up to us to decide what we want to follow. If we want to accept certain things from Tibetan culture, fine, why not. However, it is not necessary. If we can distinguish Tibetan elements from essential Buddhism, then at least we can be clear about what we are following. We cannot be purist in Buddhism. Even Indian Buddhism was in keeping with Indian society. We cannot divorce Buddhism from the society in which it was taught, but we can be clear about what is cultural and what is about the four noble truths, the path to enlightenment, bodhichitta and so on.

Questions and Answers
Question: One argument about the difference between Bon and Buddhism is that Buddhism comes from Buddha, a fully enlightened being, it is well documented and there is a lineage, whereas Bon does not come from a fully enlightened being.

de-charging for healers and self-healing

decharging is one simple technique I picked up in India from my master teacher, and is the often over-looked side of meditation. (I used to wonder why most meditators were fairly cranky, often irritable people. same with yogis, ie, Hatha guys and Iyengar yoga practitioners. I thought they were supposed to be calm and balanced, ha, ha!!!!)

in meditation, we CHARGE the soul -- which starts purification running in us. once the purification is running, it means, whatever blocks and crap we have in our astral and causal bodies (storehouses of karma) gets shaken loose and unless we decharge it, we act out of it and get stuck with it and digest it all over again!

for healers, the situation is even more dire. many healers believe (because their tradition states it) that they DON'T need any form of 'decharging' or 'grounding' -- after they've spent a day working for hours on peoples' bodies, hearts (like psychotherapists, for example) or souls (like energy healers).

this is why most healers get sick after a few years of doing really inspired, charged, wonderful healings -- they're taking on the stress and strains, the illnesses, and fatigues and worries and karmas of the people they're healing. whether they notice it or not. it's like the principle of fire -- whether you 'believe' fire will burn you if you stick your hand in it, or you don't believe it will burn, guess what? if you stick your hand in a roaring blaze, you'll get burned. it's the nature of fire.

same with healings. whether we believe as healers that we're taking on stuff or not, we are. (I was a Reiki healer and master for many years, and didn't think I was susceptible to all the energies I was receiving and processing for other people. nonsense.)

not only formal healers per se, but many people in responsible positions at work (ie, being a shoulder to cry on for colleagues or the person everyone unloads on) burn out really fast because they're absorbing all the negativity and stress of the people around them. not only their OWN stress, which as you know is more than enough, but everyone else's, too.

de-charging is so so so simple, I can give you one great technique, try it and see if it works, if it appeals to you.

every time you take a shower or a bath, when the water's running on you in particular, think consciously, with intent, "right now, I'm decharging ANY stress, strain, pain, negativity, whatever I picked up today, with or without my awareness, into this beautiful water. thank you, (god or universe or whatever divine name you life), for creating the water element."

stay there for ten, fifteen, twenty minutes, with the intention of using the water element to decharge all that stuff. see how you feel. my guess is you'll feel it all draining out of you, and you'll feel a lot lighter after the shower.

it's a simple but powerful technique.

you can do the same thing, holding a handful of roses or any cut flower -- just thanking the EARTH element, not the water. if you hold them in your hands for about fifteen minutes, you'll feel the stress pour into the flowers. make sure to toss them into some bushes, back into nature where they won't be picked up by someone else -- or in the garbage (but better in nature).

and where you work -- keep cut flowers, like in a vase or a bowl of water, on your desk. you'll be amazed how rapidly they wilt if the atmosphere is super-stressful.

flowers absorb negative energy from the surrounding environment -- it's one of their functions in this creation. they're happy to do it, by the way -- no need to feel guilty!

Loss of a friend

I lost a friend today, but not to death. I lost him to woe, dispair and self pity.

Several months ago his wife destroyed the handfasting cord they were married with. Then, she destroyed everything my friend gave her. Then she moved him out and someone else in.

My friend is beyond endurance of his pain. So, He's taken a job with a company in Alaska. He's leaving literally everything but his clothing behind, including his friends. He's severing all ties other than his parents and son. We'll never see him again, no one who knows him now will know where he is in 6 months.

He has been a dear friend to me. He knew of my son's coming 2 years before I was pregnant. He has been a spiritual sounding board for years. His satement to me today was that he's going to become a completely selfish person, and wouldn't be someone I'd probably want to know in a short while.

While I know that kind of pain and respect that he has to do what he has to do for himself... pardon me if I think it sucks rocks through cocktail straws. I told him that. He knows he always has a place to stay should he need it, and that if he ever needs this friend, she will be there. It is all I can do and it STILL SUCKS. This is something I know I cannot heal. Time and distance must suffice for now.

It is my hope that this friend is not lost forever as he believes he shall be.

I lost a friend today and life will not be quite the same.

4 Dimensional Bodywork is based on freeing the spirit which has been trapped deep within the body matrix and not on dissolving the problems. This is achieved by delivering the right impulse to the right spot at the right time so that person can connect with their true potential and intelligence. In this way they will become stronger, more aware and happier as changes begin to manifest.
Many methods are based on the suppression of pain and the fight against disease. However, a garden without weeds is not necessarily a beautiful garden. That is to say, living without the presence of pain does not transform one into a happy person.

4 Dimensional Bodywork has a basic treatment framework which includes following the inherent body rhythms of the client using a different techniques freely and spontaneously (i.e. meridian treatment, chakra, aura, fascia, craniosacral, cosmic healing, structural, friction, lymphatic, blood vessel, organrythm, emotional, communication, spiritual, and more).
In 4D Bodywork it is the role of the bodyworker to find out who the client really is, that is, the person behind the pain and suffering. Remaining centered as a cosmic human along the vertical axis of heaven and earth using Taoist meditations and exercises combined with meridian/ charka/ aura meditation.

Du Mai is the name for the energy or information channel, located in the spine similar to other spiritual traditions. The channel lies at the very root of the creation and evolution of man, regardless of his origin or belief.

I need a little help...

I've had a rather bad pain in my abdomen for a while now that has been getting worse. I think I may have something like a tumor but am not sure.

I've been applying some Reiki and have been using self-hypnosis and meditation to control the pain. It seems to be working but I could really use the help.

healing fire ceremony Sunday in Marin!

just -- I thought any Bay Area locals should know this is happening this weekend. it's a good chance to unload and unwind whatever stress we're carrying... especially as healers.... and to super-charge the soul.

we did one in San Jose last weekend, at a private home, and the place is STILL buzzing with high divine energy (had dinner with our friends who own it, last night). a lot of people came to the event, and were blown away by the healing energy of that fire.

Bruno Gröning : The Circle Of Friends

Bruno Groning was born in 1906 in Danzig, Germany.
He was a simple workman who moved to Western Germany as a refugee after World War II.

In 1949 the name Bruno Groning became a household word in Germany overnight, reports of his work appeared in the news reels concerning the events surrounding the "Miracle Doctor".
Bruno Groning pointed out that everyone burns up vital energy.
However, new energy to replace it is often insufficiently absorbed. Without energy the body is also unable to fulfil its tasks. The consequences being fatigue, exhaustion, nervousness, anxieties and finally, illness. The human body is constantly environed by healing waves which only have to be absorbed.
According to Bruno Groning, no illness is incurable, and that fact is confirmed by the healings that have occurred and have been medically verified. These healings are spiritual and therefore independent of Bruno Groning’s physical presence.

In order to absorb this healing stream, the person seeking help sits with his hands open, palms upward. His arms and legs are not crossed, for this blocks the free flow of the healing stream. Thoughts about illness and personal problems have an inhibiting effect, while thoughts about something pleasant are beneficial.
As the healing stream flows through the body it makes contact with the sick organ and begins its purification effect. This may lead to pain, which is an indication that the body is being cleansed. Since the illness as such is not the will of God, it will gradually be removed. In some cases this can be spontaneous.
When he died in Paris in 1959 the last court trial was well under way. The proceedings were halted and a final verdict never pronounced.

The Circle Of Friends, are the followers of his teachings, with a non demoninational creed. The people have carried his word accross the world. And teach people to tune in to the "healing stream".

Sekhem

With it's origins in Lemurian and Atlantean times the healing energy system of Sekhem is that taught and practised by initiates in Ancient Egypt. Many references to this remain in the ancient papyri of Egypt and on the walls of Temples and Pyramids. For example at the Temple of Edfu the inner sanctuary is surrounded by ten side rooms used by the priests of Horus who were renowned to be great healers, magicians and sages.

Here in these rooms Sekhem becomes the power of the spiritual warrior and the powers of the sun with it's association with the goddess SEKHMET, daughter of the Sun God RA.

Called Numen by the Greeks, the Egyptians called it Sekhem "The powers of the universe...of the divine". Literally Sekhem is translated as Power or Might. In the Eastern tradition Sekhem is visualized as the fiery serpent coiled at the base of the spine "The Kundalini". This serpent or snake power is the power of creation and regeneration. In Egypt this was represented as the Uraeus, the reared serpent emerging from the third eye of the Pharaoh. Fire is it's operative element and this is the fire that creates, consumes and transforms in it's process of enlightenment and healing.

Mikao Usui : Reiki

Mikao Usui was a amazing man born on 15th. August 1865 in the village of 'Taniai-mura'.

Now before i offend anyone This is only one of the stories of his history. There are others detailing his life, some suggesting his religious stance was Christian, which is actually unlikely, as Christianity was declared illegal in Japan. Those Japanese who refused to renounce Christianity were executed, so were a number of the European missionaries who refused to leave the country. This was the case untill 1868.

The Usui family were Tendai Buddhist followers, he entered studies at a monastery during his ealrier years. He also excelled at Martial Arts. During his life he took a form of meditation
lasting 21 days, this was a common Buddhist practice. This type of spiritual discipline in Tendai Buddhism is called Lotus Repentance Meditation. By 1912 he didn't have a formal way of teaching, however he had taught to others on an informal
basis for many years. His hands on healing method was not something he taught until around 1925. Previously he had only worked with Buddhist and Shinto followers.

In April 1922 Mikao Usui opened his first 'Spiritual Seat of Learning' in Harajuku, Tokyo. His teachings were what is called a 'Ronin' (leaderless) method, this was to ensure that no
one person could lay claim to them at any time.
Intresting? Usui's healing method seems to have been referred to as 'Usui Teate' meaning 'Usui Hand Touch' or 'Usui Do'.
This man is one of the greatest healers of the modern world.
He died from a stroke in 1926 in a town called Fukuyama in Hiroshima. The name Reiki appears to have been given by a student, whom went on to teach.

Sri Sai Kaleshwara Swami

Kaleshwar, a young saint known for his expert healing abilities, was born in South India in the early 1970s. there are ancient palm leaf books, written by an Indian saint of antiquity, Virabrahmindra, prophesizing that in the small town of Penukonda, a saint would come in this age bringing the Mother Divine energy to the planet in a new way.

(the ashram where I lived and studied directly with Kaleshwara is indeed located in the village of Penukonda.)

when Kaleshwara was 14 years old, he met his master, Shirdi Sai Baba (who, ironically, had DIED in 1918!) disguised as an old beggar. the old man tried to bum a couple rupees off the stunned boy, and their relationship began from there. Shirdi Sai Baba, one of the greatest and most-loved saints in India (because he delivers whatever people heartfully ask him for), started teaching Kaleshwara the abilities, and opening his channels to the divine.

starting in his teens, he has healed many many people from life-threatening diseases and conditions, including terminal cancer, cobra bites, and other illnesses. among his healing abilities, Kaleshwara also performs miracles -- manifesting items such as deity statues, small jewelry like rings and necklaces, Shiva lingams, vibbhuti (ash), and even atma lingams, (that is, small Shiva oval stones that are formed IN his physical body, in the stomach, and at auspicious times during the year, are 'birthed' out the esophagus and the mouth. the atma lingams -- 'atma' means soul -- contain part of the soul energy of the saint who births them and of the Shiva, god the father energy, and the Mother Divine energy. they are miraculous creations that grow, visbily, as they age.)

despite these abilities, Kaleshwara is a humble character who serves the divine through one major direction -- his sole purpose on this planet is to create healing masters who can handle the miracle energies, the creation energies. he is NOT a saint for the masses, for the open public, and discourages his students from treating him like a god, or worshipping him as a divine soul. constantly telling his students not to be slaves to the master, he advocates instead that if they want to surrender, they should surrender to the truth, not to a human being.

anyone who commands the miracle energy is a master of the Five Elements. the five elements means, in this creation everything, including the human form, is made from the five great elements (and their vibrations) -- earth, fire, water, air and sky (ether). without fire, you wouldn't have digestion, without air, no breath, without earth, no bones and muscle, without water, no blood systems, flesh, etc.

Jesus was a master of the five elements, and many Christian saints -- like Francisc of Assisi -- were clearly in that position also. Buddha, Mohammed, any saint who connected with the miracle energy -- they knew the underlying principles of how the elements work in this creation, and they knew how to USE the elements to create miraculous healings and manifestations.

Kaleshwara's mission is to bring back that information in a dynamic and practical way -- not by teaching to the intellect, but by giving the ENERGY experiences of the elements, and the miracle energy, so that anyone can access and understand and USE it to create healing in this world. they are soul mechanisms, his teachings.

G'day my name is Dave.
Prehaps, we should all like to discuss some of our own gifts.
My personal experience has been guided to a system that is referred to as Hands on Healing, very basic and simple but extremly powerful, ive also done some cranial sacral + other stuff. I personally love to blend different systems.
